Bharat movie review:

For me Bharat is Salman!

Image result for bharat movie

There is a scene in the movie where Bharat introduces Shah Rukh Khan as the superstar of 90's and the entire theater erupts with thunderous cheering. Acknowledging your contemporary at a time when you are at your peak is the biggest virtue of a superstar.

Over the years Salman Khan has been constantly trying to spread the message of goodness and brotherhood through his films. He believes cinema has the power to influence the youth and hence he is consciously being the quintessential good man or should I say 'God' man! So much so that he refuses to play negative characters on screen and even a revenge drama like Race 3 turns out to be film preaching importance of family values. And he is so honest in his approach that it connects with the comman man. They say Bollywood has a special genre called 'Salman movies' and these are critic proof. So his films may not have stories or screenplays but they manage to pull the audiences to cinemas and Bharat is no exception (even the much hyped World Cup India - South Africa match couldn't deter it). The box office numbers say it all.

Purely on basis of cinema, I would not rate Bharat highly. There are far too many loopholes and the story wanders without any substantial grip. I expected a lot more from director Ali Abbas Zafar this Eid (After all he has given blockbusters like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai). With a stellar supporting cast like Disha Patani, Jackie Shroff, Tabu, Nora Fatehi and others, he could have weaved magic. But sadly they seem underutilized since the story is about the journey of a man and a nation and not these characters. I like the way Bharat as a character promotes integrity, honesty, humanity and the importance of family in a world where these qualities are fast diminishing. It is a story of a man who has witnessed the most difficult times and yet not compromised with his values. For today's generation this might be OTT and boring to an extent but an ideal world with ideal people is what everyone secretly wishes for.

Salman has played the character with much conviction and Katrina Kaif is brilliant in her role (by far her best performance by notches). Sunil Grover as Bharat's buddy is the epitome of friendship. The music seems underwhelming and none of the songs recreate what an ideal Salman song would. Bharat is mounted on a huge scale and few scenes like the partition scene leave you spellbound. The film has doses of laughter and drama but what it lacks is pace. A little more focus on the story and editing would have made it a masterpiece!

Special kudos to Salman for yet again attempting something which is different from the massy masala flicks that he is synonymous with. And for the bhai lovers wanting to witness their superheroes stardom, December is not far. With Dabangg3 he will be back doing what he does best. Get your seetis ready.

Rampat: Movie Review

Well we are all fan of someone and we expect a great work from them, this is the backdrop of the review.
For a non Marathi speaking guy being a fan of Ravi Jadhav means his work has crossed language barriers and people look forward to classy work and get entertained.

Trailer was impressive: watch it if you haven't seen it Trailer

Watching the movie is Dadar, which is the heart of Marathi audience, the theatre was 50% full. Not bad for a Friday and the excitement begin.

1st 15 mins promised to be an entertainment and offbeat movie with other ladies taking an attempt of suicide lightly in a very 'Andaz Apna Apna' style. The the actor is launched who is name Mithun and apparently can mimic various Bollywood actors like ShahRukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan etc and is always dancing in a happy mood. Actresses looks sweet and then the downfall begins.

Actors look amateur and in a mood to take audience lightly, mimicry make you cry and ask why are you even doing this? and where is the movie going and script? All is time pass and just that. Loosely directed movie is confused between the script of Bollywood movie of Farhan Akhtar's 'Luck By Chance' and the Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena and Karishma Kapoor starrer 'Andaz Apna Apna'.

Avengers: Endgame Review by a non Avengers fan

Just if you feel all IPL games are fixed enjoy Avengers: Endgame in theater. Cheers are real, so even if you are not a superhero fan, it will bring a smile on your looking at others cheer.

Disclaimer: I am not an Avengers fan and haven't seen all the previous movies hence no spoilers also :-)

Considering the craze for Avengers: Endgame I decided to go for myself and see what the hype was all about and boy was I surprised? There were hundreds of Avenger fans all dressed in customised clothes, gathered to celebrate the biggest occasion - closure of the series.

There was hooting and cheering when their favorites came onscreen and I felt like an underdog. The movie in itself is a cinematic wonder where the story is beautifully woven and each character, and actor, has stood out. (Be it Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Benedict Wong as Wong, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and many more...)

Action sequences are brilliant and there good doses of humor too. There were certain sequences which  were difficult to comprehend considering my lack of awareness but it dint matter as it was a treat to watch so many superheroes showing off their heroism. What made my experience extra memorable was the atmosphere in the cinema hall (or should I call it a stadium?!)

Business of Politics!

Whom to vote has become whom not to vote?

As elections are nearing, marketing of politics and politicians has picked up like never before. Today's campaign is what a man can do and what a man cant do rather than focussing on the party as a collective unit. Either you vote for Modi or you vote against Modi. In a country of 1.3 billion it has come to one mans ability or disability to swing 2019 election.

We are kept so busy with the news of pro and anti him that we are not asking the right questions?

Democracy is just a myth. I am as scared of my local political party as I would have in British era. Chowkidar or Pappu anyone who comes to rule doesn't matter. How will either of them change my life for good matters. What are the next 5 years key areas? How will the nations economy and standard of living improve? Will we get better infrastructure or our hassles of living in the current scenario will worsen?

The focus should be on how will we improve as a nation rather than what one man can deliver individually. Also I wonder if the current PM is busy strategising to win the next election, who is doing current work?

PS. Blog is short because I don't think we individually can make an difference. We, 1.3 billion people of this nation, need our own Modi to wake us up in right way.

Has the new India arrived?

'Yeh naya India hain Ghar mein ghuse ga bhi aur marega bhi' - Uri (2019)

This blog is not about political view or nationalism; but about the change in our consumption of entertainment. I am not an expert or a critic, but a fan of movies.

Over the years I felt I was taken for granted by filmmakers and actors with very lame scripts and repeated content being churned out in the name of entertainment.

I had lost my interest in Bollywood and only selected movies really appealed me. I felt like I would never see a decent Bollywood film as the ones I didn't like were surprisingly the ones minting money at the Box Office. I felt disappointed and powerless as a consumer. I gave up on Bollywood and started watching Hollywood and shifted to web series (had quit hindi daily soaps ages ago as they are dumber than our Bollywood movies). Taste was gradually changing and the pace at which it was changing, I could hardly watch Bollywood trailers.

How could people tolerate such movies? I love to hear when the public questions, they were smart people - the bunch of writers, directors, actors etc. So why give such miserable output? Oh! Because the masses want to watch unreal cinema where they can worship their hero and whistle on his antics. Also budgets/finances don't work for realistic films as the risk is too high. Its a battle single person cannot win and I had lost all hopes. (I mean you cant say that Salman Khan movie was not at all good, bunch of people will pounce on you with all they have as you have deeply offended them.)

But thank God for 2018 when Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh movies, which in any previous years would have easily crossed higher 100 crores club, were rejected by the masses. Wohh wohh wohh itna kya kharab hai? (Is it that bad?) Aayushman, Rajkumar and Uri wala are the new talk of the town. Content is the new hero and people are looking out for stories. Finally masses are discussing these movies, the actors, the plot and their sequels are being considered. Anything substandard even with big names is being rejected. It is a new beginning.

Hope my joy is not like baadal aa gaye in the movie Lagaan where they start to dance and sing  in joy only to realize the clouds have moved on ... Wish to have masses of the classes to keep this new cinema alive and rocking.

Love,
Ticket Buyer

P.S. SRK is my favorite actor.

What are your hobbies?

Every time someone asks me this question I go digging back each year to the day I was born to look what will be an apt answer to the question. Have I done anything at all ever in my life and the answer is a slap on my face! NO!

But I cannot tell anyone ‘I don’t have any hobbies’ bcoz strange sound come to my ears ehhh? Huhhh? aise kaise? kuch toh hoga? And that become more difficult to answer ‘I have done nothing in my life’ expressed in a childish, confused, guilty, slightly dumb (plain dumb hurts my ego)..

So finally I decided my hobbies are watching Movies, Listening to Music and playing Cricket. I was in Heaven. Problem solved. But you know life is like a black man’s left ass, its nor right.... nor fair... now I have to answer counter questions ‘aaare these are common hobbies’, ‘what else’, ‘these are boring hobbies’ but whats can I do if they are boring or common and what do you mean by what else, it took my 27 years to get at these, moron... =P

But these are the basic questions to which I need a dhamakedar answer.. hummm lets see what are the options

F1 - no, Tennis – no, Football – no, Swimming – no, Reading – no, sleeping – yes but that will have a dent on my image so - no, Bird watching – definitely yes... but you know how closed minded people are so – no, stamp collecting – no, Eating – I guess that’s a part and parcel of life....shopping  - where is the money??? so – no, dancing – singing – writing – acting –cooking - bluffing (KBC)  – any stuff that can take me to reality show – NO, solving puzzles – then I would have solved this long time ago so – no...

Eureka!

Blogging is my hobby.

Yes finally I added a hobby in my kitty... so what if I have written only one till date and have 27 unique visitors in 7 months.. no 1 will ask me how good or bad am I at my hobbies....Super Duper excited to see finally seek my new hobby...

My first blog!

First blog is like having sex for the first time, you have no idea about how to do and several thousands things pops in your mind, but you want to do it. Thats it.

This particular experience reminds me of the famous conversation between Boman Irani and Abhishek from the movie Bluffmaster (Click here!) ...There are several small things that happen in your life that make your life...The day you learnt cycling..your first job, your first salary, your first kiss, first time you felt something for someone.. how many days you remember from your life... this is surely one of those for me..

My blog name is direct proportional to my personality Teja Ka Bheja is..... Khali! And the Blogs which will follow from now on (if they do), will reflect the emptiness of my brains...

Hope this blog finds someone who intends to read it!

OKAY BYE!
